FAQs

General Questions

With options for Ice Rinks, Synthetic Ice Rinks, and Street Hockey Rinks, there is a solution for any space.

Ice Rinks: EZ ICE Rinks assemble with no tools thanks to the PRO Home Arena System® patented strap system. Simply slide the boards into the brackets, and connect the straps. The tension of the straps works with the weight of the water in the rink to hold the boards together, making the rink durable even without stakes hammered into the ground. Each ice rink kit comes with a plastic liner. Lay the liner inside of the rink and over the boards, and fill with water. Freezing temperatures are required to create ice.

Synthetic Ice Rinks: Get Synthetic Ice tiles by themselves, or use them with the PRO Home Arena System®. Glide and stop with ice skates just like on real ice with these high quality tiles that can be used in any weather. When using your EZ ICE Rink with Synthetic Ice, you will not need straps or a liner, and will be provided Synthetic Ice specific brackets. The rink will sit on top of the Synthetic Ice allowing for optimal game-play.

Street Hockey Rinks: Use the PRO Home Arena System® on cement, pavement, sportcourt, or Ultrabase flooring. Play Street Hockey with either roller blades or sneakers. When using your EZ ICE Rink for Street Hockey, you will not need straps or a liner, and can take advantage of Street Hockey specific brackets.

The best size for your rink depends on the size of your available space, intended use , the number of skaters, and approximate age of the skaters. Here are some things to consider:

  • Your kids will have fun on any size rink, and most families will go as large as their yard will allow.

  • Rounded corners are best for playing hockey.

  • Municipalities and Commercial use should factor 25-50 sq ft per skater.

  • A regulation hockey rink is 85’ x 200’, but most families choose rinks between 20’ x 40’ and 60’ x 100’.

EZ ICE’s patented strap system replaces the need for stakes and makes setting up your rink easy and stress-free, even on frozen ground. Stakes are typically used to hold the boards to the ground to counter the high amounts of force caused from water and ice in the rink. The straps work in tension to counteract these same forces but with much less headache. It’s also much easier to move and adjust your boards after you’ve assembled everything, versus having to pull up stakes if you are off even just a bit.

Both the Classic and Arena Height red brackets extend 15” beyond the boards and are placed every 5 feet at the intersection of each board. EZ ICE brackets are 4” wide which allows them to be incredibly sturdy, while also very easy to store.

All of our liners are made from 6 mil thick bright white low-density polyethylene. EZ ICE liners are strong enough to stand up to sticks and pucks even at sub-freezing temperatures. Our ultra-white liners ensure your rink freezes much faster than nearby ponds or lakes!

EZ ICE liners are solid white and do not have a logo on them.

EZ ICE Rinks are engineered from the highest quality materials. Besides the liner, all components are engineered to last 10 years or more. EZ ICE liners typically last 1 to 3 years, but most customers choose to replace their liner each winter. EZ ICE Rink components come with a 1-year warranty that covers damages within normal use.

Making your rink smaller is as simple as removing boards and brackets until you reach your desired dimensions. EZ ICE straps can be easily shortened like the straps on a backpack.

Any EZ ICE Rink without Classic Height boards will come with an EZ Door, for access in and out of the rink. This means no climbing over boards to get onto the ice.

Synthetic Ice Product Questions

EZ ICE Synthetic Ice is an alternative solution to regular ice that is suitable for all climates. These plastic tiles mimic real ice, so that you can practice skating and shooting with your EZ ICE Rink any time of year.

EZ ICE Synthetic Ice is made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and is infused with lubricant to allow the skate and puck to glide, similar to real ice.

No, only ice rink kits require a liner. Synthetic Ice Rink Kits do not include a liner.

No, you do not need straps for your EZ ICE Synthetic Ice Rink. The straps are used to withstand the force of water in an ice rink only.

Synthetic Ice tiles are 49.25” x 49.25” and are ⅜” thick. When connected to each other, every “joint” loses 1.25”, so the result is effectively a 48” x 48” panel. The tiles weigh only 30 pounds, making them easier to move than other options.

Street Hockey Product Questions

Our street hockey customers are looking for a way to keep their street hockey ball or puck contained within the playing area and to improve game-play.  Even classic height boards can make a big difference.

No, only ice rink kits require a liner. Street Hockey Rink Kits do not include a liner.

You can use your EZ ICE Street Hockey Rink on any paying surface (concrete, asphalt, sport court, tennis court, etc).  If you want to flatten the surface and are even looking to play on grass, we offer an Ultra-Base panel solution that has worked well in many types of applications.

No, you do not need straps for your EZ ICE Street Hockey Rink. The straps are used to withstand the force of water in an ice rink only.

Ice Rink Installation Questions

EZ ICE does not offer installation services. The 60 Minute Backyard Rink™ is so easy to install, anyone can do it! If you really want someone to help install your rink, we recommend contacting a local landscaper or handyman. No prior experience is necessary.

No. To avoid damage to your lawn, lay your liner down after the first frost, and remove it in early spring. The liner and ice can actually insulate the grass and keep it protected and green all winter long.

EZ ICE Rinks are tested and engineered to hold up to 12” of water as denoted by the “maximum fill line” on the boards. Based on our recommended 2-3” of water in the most shallow part of your rink, this allows for 9” of slope between the lowest and highest part of your yard.

This can be increased slightly by reducing the level of water in your shallow end and is dependent on individual circumstances. Most customers with sloped yards report their rinks accommodating 12” or more of slope, but we cannot guarantee filling above the max fill line.

We recommend purchasing a basic laser level and using it to find the slope most accurately. Be sure to get a green laser, as a red laser does not show up well outside. It’s easiest to see the laser level at dusk or night time.

Synthetic Ice Installation Questions

No, EZ ICE Synthetic Ice should be installed on a solid, flat surface, like concrete, a sport court, or pavement. If you are looking to install it on your level lawn, please contact an EZ ICE Backyard Rink Expert as we have some creative solutions using Ultra-Base panels that can be used to create a solid flat surface.

Synthetic Ice should be installed on any flat, solid and level surface such as concrete, pavement, sport court, basement floor, or Ultra Base tiles.

Although it’s not recommended that the tiles are disassembled often, it is relatively easy to do so.

EZ ICE Synthetic Ice tiles use a proven dovetail method to lock together to ensure a smooth and continuous skating surface. Basic tools are used to snap the tiles together. EZ ICE provides everything you need to make this easy.

Shipping Questions

Yes, we sell a high volume of rinks to Canadian customers. We collect local taxes and handle duty fees and customs work at the border.

EZ ICE is a United States-based company, meaning we must collect payments in USD. For Canadian customers, the conversion from CAD to USD is based on the exchange rate as determined by your bank and/or credit card company.

Shipping times can be dynamic based on the volume of orders at any given time. The EZ ICE Team is working around the clock to ensure that we manufacture, package, and ship all EZ ICE Rinks as quickly as possible.

Depending on the size, style, and shipping location, most current orders are shipping out within an estimated 1-5 business days, but we cannot guarantee any shipping or delivery times.

Once your order ships, you will receive an email confirmation. Tracking information is available in the Customer Portal.

Storage Questions

Once your rink has melted for the season, it's time to drain. To avoid flooding your yard, we recommend leaving the boards in place, and folding the liner in on itself, allowing the water to drain out at a slower pace over time.

The EZ ICE boards can easily stack on top of each other to store in the off season. EZ ICE owners store their rink parts in their garage, basement, or shed, or even outside covered by last season's liner.

It is important that your liner stay in excellent condition and free from any rips or tears to prevent your rink from draining. For best results, we suggest replacing your liner each year, so that you begin each season with a new liner. Many customers will advertise their used liner on a local online marketplace and someone will always find a way to re-use it (such as a massive heavy duty drop-cloth for painters).
